An ectopic pregnancy is a complication of pregnancy. This medical term means that the pregnancy implants outside of the uterus (instead, it typically sets in the fallopian tubes). Ectopic pregnancy is a medical emergency that can be dangerous or even fatal to the mother; except for a few very rare cases, an ectopic pregnancy cannot be sustained.
